Citrus Doggie Soap (Dog Soap) Recipe
Description
A great citrus smelling soap to remove all of the odor for your dog!
Ingredient List
74 ounces - Olive Oil
14 ounces - Coconut Oil
24 ounces - Cold Distilled Water
12 ounces - Lye
0.5 ounces - Sweet Orange Essential Oil
0.5 ounces - Eucalyptus Essential Oil
0.5 ounces - Citronella Essential Oil
1 tablespoon - Ground Orange Peel
Directions
Once you have all of the ingredients measured out, you can begin to prepare the soap. Please note that all measurements are made by weight, not be fluid measurement. All of the oils and the water must be measured on a scale accurate to 0.2 ounces.
- Begin by mixing the olive oil and coconut oil in a large stainless steel pan. Set the pan aside for now.
- Next, grind or shred the fresh orange peels to the desired consistency. I like to grind the peels very fine (about the size of sugar granules). Mix the ground orange peels with the citronella, eucalyptus and sweet orange essential oils. Set this mixture aside for now.
- Then, put the water into a glass or stainless steel bowl. Slowly add the lye into the water. I usually mix my lye and water outside to reduce the chance of breathing in the fumes. Be very careful with the lye crystals and with the lye/water mixture because both are highly corrosive.
- Stir the water/lye mixture until the lye has completely dissolved. The lye/water mixture should be warming and may even become hot. Once the lye has dissolved set the mixture aside in a safe place with a thermometer in it to measure the temperature.
- While the lye is cooling, you can now begin to heat the oils. You will heat the oil with to exactly 95 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Keep an eye on the lye mixture. You need to keep the oil at approximately 95 degrees Fahrenheit until the lye mixture cools to about 95 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Once the lye mixture is at 95 degrees and the oil mixture is at 95 degrees you can combine the two mixtures.
- You must now stir the mixtures together until trace. If you hand stir the mixture will take about 30 to 50 minutes to trace. If you use a stick blender it will take less than 15 minutes to trace.
- Once the mixture has reached trace, add the orange peel and frangrance oil mixture.
- Stir for a few more minutes to even out the added ingredients, then pour into soap molds.
- Leave the soap in a covered mold for about 48 hours before removing and cutting.
